What To Expect: Comprehensive
Women's Center recommends acupuncture for pain management, migraines,
allergies, and smoking cessation. Pregnant women may benefit from
acupuncture to manage labor pain and to increase breast milk while
breastfeeding. Research has also shown it to be an effective
alternative to help turn breech babies.
Needles are placed in
specific acupuncture points throughout the body. The needles are solid
and no medicines are put on them or inserted through them. Many people
either feel nothing or just a slight sense of pressure. The needles
remain in place from 15 to 30 minutes.
For pregnant patients, we
generally avoid the use of needles and use pressure points instead. The
first Wednesday of every month, Comprehensive Women's Center hosts a
class on the use of acupressure in labor to reduce labor pain. Please
talk to our reception team to register for the next class.
